Glyndebourne woods have a wonderful variety of trees, an abundance of wildlife and of course, a series of reconstructions of ancient buildings to explore...

Sculpture

The woodland has several interesting wood sculptures - winged sculpture by Walter Bailey is one of them.

This beautiful mixed woodland originally formed part of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s estate in the 17th Century. Covering 12 acres it has a picturesque circular path running through it. An accompanying leaflet is available in the Information Centre and in boxes at the entrance to the Wood.

As you progress through the woods you can explore the Ancient Buildings Trail - a series of fabulous reconstructions of ancient buildings built by the East Sussex Archaeology & Museums Partnership. These cover the Mesolithic, Bronze Age and Saxon periods and are based on archaeological evidence. This is a wonderful area to explore.

The whole area is managed as a working woodland, a wildlife habitat and a recreational facility.

Orienteering

One of our orienteering course also runs through the wood. We have three simple B.O.F (British Orienteering Federation) approved Permanent Courses on the Estate. These are equally suitable for families and school groups. A4 maps can be purchased in the Shop for a small charge. The shortest of our three courses takes about 10 minutes to run, and the longest is only 2.0km but can last as long as you like if you take in the surroundings as you go!
