Adventure Playground & Railway
An ever-popular part of Bentley is the Adventure Playground where children up to the age of 10 can let off steam and explore the living willow tunnels, pathways and domes. There is ample space for picnicking in the shade of mature beech and plane trees. Nearby is the terminus of the miniature steam train which is run by volunteers at weekends from April to September and East Sussex half terms and holidays and every Sunday in Winter (weather permitting) as well as Wednesdays in July and August and other special occasions. The train can be used as an alternative means of reaching or returning from the Wood as there is a second station near to the beginning of the Woodland trail. During School holidays there is always something extra to challenge the children, such as an Easter egg hunt or a trail, and the easiest of our three orienteering courses is a suitable challenge for children to tackle at any time of year. Free quiz sheets on various topics are available to add to children's fun. Bentley now has 100 metres of living willow tunnels, pathways, domes and arbours to explore, with bridges and tunnels leading onto a small island. The recent phase was completed in March this year by local artist Jenny Arran.
